Until Candlemass

A seasonal musical recommendation...

Medieval Carols as performed by the Oxford Camerata under the direction of Jeremy Summerly. The lyrics are theologically rich and the music is both contemplative and festive.

Saw your name on Fumare from Small.

Did we discuss there?

Yep, I was part of the discussion there. However, I find it difficult to have a fruitful conversation about these things with a random group of strangers. You have to start from scratch, arguing about first principles. Most people judge economics by purely material standards. While I happen to believe that a local economy is more efficient and materially beneficial, that is not the most important argument in favor of it. Local economy fosters certain spiritual goods nearly impossible within a global economy and does not carry such grave spiritual dangers.

I am johnXteresa. We had the discussion if I was not clear.

I understand your difficulties with strangers, but you made good progress with me. You convinced me, that our views are very similar.

I created my site back in April in response to the noxious effects of corporate life. Working in a corporation is very dehumanizing. At least for me it is. My site is about how to cope with it, and how to get out of it. If you click on my profile you can find your way back there if you are interested.

Also, I left you a link in your food post below to some posts I wrote back in July about food. I hope that we can continue the discussion. Please stay in touch.

I thought you meant the discussion at Fumare - now I see. I enjoyed our discussion as well. Certainly, we recognize many of the same problems in the modern arrangement of society. Arriving at an agreeable solution is the tricky part!

I have been studying the Distributist movement for about six years now, along with the agrarian writings of Wendell Berry and the political philosophy of St. Thomas. During those years, I have been working toward a simpler and more Catholic life one small change at a time. Fortunately, the ideals are still life-enriching even when our modern situation makes their application so difficult!

Thanks for your interest. I have summarized my thoughts on economics in a few old posts which you can link to on the sidebar. Comments and criticisms are always welcome.
